I was always a nerd.
I love reading. When I was younger, while other kids ran around playgrounds or
played with Barbie dolls, I would spend the entire day glued to a storybook.
Even now, I do not have a TV in my flat; I would much rather read a good book.
I was, and still am, a dreamy nerd.
I love fantasy and sci-fi novels, and my favourite authors include
David Eddings ,
Mercedes Lackey ,
Piers Anthony and
Anne McCaffery .
I also like the Star Trek Series -
my favourite characters are Spock, Data and Worf. Strangely, I don't watch the
TV series, but I've read many Star Trek books; usually it's the other way
around.
I used to read a lot of mystery when I was younger, but not now. However, a series I found good was the "Mrs Murphy" Series by Rita Mae Brown . What attracted me was the cats *grin*... Another series that combines cats and mystery is "The Cat Who" series by Lilian Braun Jackson.
Anime
My latest obsession is anime, or Japanese manga. I was crazy over them when I
was a teen, and then lost touch (and all my mangas! *sob*) when I went on
to the
university. Recently, I'm re-discovering all these fantastical new worlds all
over again. American comics are good (have I mentioned I like Young Justice?),
but Japanese manga really rocks. ^_~
My absolute favorite is Dragonball Z *squeals* I also like Yu Yu Hakusho. One day, I will find out what the fuss with the other popular series like Gundam Wing, Weiss Kreuz or Card Captor Sakura are all about, for the moment, DBZ and YYH are enough to consume what little precious free time I have. *laughs sheepishly*
What's really great about anime is the fanfiction. The original creators may have set the background, but it's in the realms of fans' imagination, and of course hard work in transcribing their ideas to ink/screen, that the series and their captivating characters live on, long after the TV/manga series have ended.
On the non-fiction side?
Cycling - training tips, touring accounts...
Health - holistic lifestyles
Science - nanotechnology, conductive polymers, environmental issues, drugs,
emerging viruses...
I even found a job that involves reading!
It's fortunate that I enjoy reading, for most of my job involves just that.
Sifting through biological databases and dry papers, flipping through
technical manuals and thick texts, periodically checking developers' websites
and whatever my boss thinks we should know.
*snorts derisively, then glances around the office furtively*

to read at work.
