During my exchange time in Aarhus, Kamilla, my neighbor and I became good friends. I visited her parents¡¯ house in the country side of north jutland.
It was a great time to go to the northernmost of Denmark to celebrate St. Hans festival with Kamilla¡¯s family. Only a few minutes in the small town of Skagen you would understand why this most northerly point of Denmark was an irresistible lure to the Skagen painters, who made it their home in the second half of the 19th century. The ¡°Nordic Light¡± is a characteristic of many parts of Scandinavia, but its quintessence surrounds Skagen. The narrow strip of land where Denmark ends in a pointing finger is so close to the sea and the vivid changing light of a wide, endless sky that it seems to be part of both.
Skagen is also the most famous place to celebrate St. Has festival. It is the longest day of the year on the day. People put up a gigantic pile of wood. A ¡°witch¡± was put on top of the fire and was burnt. The festival is for driving away the evil and blessing the good.
Denmark is very flat with the highest point of 147 meters. The country side of Denmark in the summer is colorful and peaceful. The filed was cover with wheat with wild flowers, such as marguerites, corn flowers and red poppy at the side.
In addition, because Denmark is in Schengen Agreenment, therefore with the Danish resident permit you can travel inside Schengen countries without applying visa separately. This is especially connivance for people not holding a Singapore passport. Therefore, I traveled around during the Easter break and after the semester. I also got a chance to present my project doing in Aarhus University in 12th congress of the international association of biomedical gerontology in Greece. Therefore the photos here also include the beautiful islands in Greece.
More photos and holiday experience are in my blog. You can find the links in the next page.
