About SPS

The Special Programme in Science was founded in 1996 to “nurture talent among budding scientists”. It is an intense programme for a selected group of undergraduates with a fierce passion and strong aptitude for science.

A string of flexible and interactive modules allow for a more multidisciplinary approach when facing scientific problems, and the incredible amount of flexibility allows us to design our own modules and plan semester-long research projects.

SPSians get to hang out in the SPS room, where they can interact with seniors, mentors and alumni, browse the SPS library, or use our computer cluster, consisting of both Windows and Linux-installed computers and sporting its own laser printer. It's not all lectures and discussions, however: we organise an annual Newbies' Orientation Camp for our newly joined first-years, as well as a Dean's Tea in August. Seminars and “fireside chats” occur every once in a while, and ad-hoc programmes are continually being arranged, from Chinese New Year dinners to movie screenings.
